I'm Plum tuckered out from wondering....so help me out and win some floss!

Please help me out stitchers...I am PLUM tuckered out from wondering......why plum floss sells slower than the rest. I thik it looks rich....not as bright as reds......soft and antique looking.......looks great on samplers......so.......give me your opinions! Would you like to try it on a sampler or project? Tell me if you have a project you would like to use some of my Plum floss on...I have two different sets shown. I will pick 5 stitchers to send a set of floss to. You pick the set. I will pick names after I read your entries. No random number generator this time....put some effort into your entries! Drawing to be February 28th.

I might add...will you share some of your finishes after you use the floss?

I appreciate your help and your input....as I appreciate all of you!

  3. I think the plum floss is so rich and beautiful. I have a crazy quilted Christmas stocking that it would be perfect on to embroider stitches between the fabrics. Thanks for a chance.

  4. Nancy, I can't imagine why those floss colors wouldn't sell. I love to use your reds in many of my projects. I could see using your plum floss in a set of JBW French Country Reindeer. They would make beautiful ornaments on a Christma tree. I don't stitch lovely grand samplers, but I could see someone stitch one of those beautiful Quaker samplers with that thread. I hope this helps!

  5. Well I for one think the plum floss is beautiful. The truth is I love everything on your blog. So many people use only black or red for stitching but I would love to use the plum. I love colour. I have a few samplers I would like to try this with. Also I am working with velvet and the plum would look very rich stitched on it. Thank you for a very generous giveaway.

  6. I would love to work with the bottom set. I think perhaps people feel that purples/plums are vivid colors not used so much in the making of older looking samplers. I do, however, believe that when incorporated with other less colorful floss, that it makes a wonderful statement. I love the level of dye you used to take away the brightness.

  7. I suppose people don't quite know what do do with plum, it is not light enough to be pink and certainly not dark enough to be red. I always regard it as a lost colour in handwork, too vivid for pastel summer and in autumn when it fits in with all the flowers and fruit it loses out to the 'sort of' traditional fall and Halloween colours. And winter becomes the red, green, blue and silver season.
I love your plum coloured threads they look so rich and warm. I would really like a chance to work with them, a winter sampler sounds like a good idea.

  8. May I join in.......?
I have always wanted to stitch one of those self coloured samplers - French Style Samplers.
I design my own samplers so it will be original.
I would always reach for those shade especialy the lighter set.

  9. I happen to love the plum colorway and I don't know why they would be slow to sell in comparison with your other colorways.
I could picture using a few different shades of plum in a Quaker sampler.
I would also pick one of the luscious plums to stitch BBD's Winter's Night Drum.
    The possibilities are endless.

  10. I don't like most plums and always sub the DMC 314 and similar shades because they are just too purplish/bluish. Those shades appear very harsh to me, not any warmth. The top one on the bottom card is fabulous! Just my 2¢! And usually not even worth that much.

  11. Nancy, such lovely colors... and so many choices. I think Rose Garden by Blackbird Designs would look lovely in these rich plums, or maybe Barbara Benard's A quaker Motif scissor pocket...or perhaps sew bands from istitch designs. There are some nice blackwork patterns on the rainbow gallery site that would work quite well with these colors. You are so generous with these giveaways. Thanks so much for the chance.

  12. probably because plum is not a fashion colour, you will find almost any other colour up an down in stores but not plum (I know because it took me ages to find a plum coloured fabric for a dress). I guess plum is just not a colour people have in the back of their had as a colour. They see pattern and fill it in with the "usual" colours, red, blue ... but they would never think of plum...
I love plum in combination with a turquoise or orange ...
I could think of several things to do with plum floss, something like your coffee bags, just for dried plums (we do that in autumn and they get stored in fabric bags) - that would be an easy enough project for me as I'm no master when it comes to the needle.

  13. I'm another that loves the bottom card - I love the dusty old look of the second one from the top especially.
I'm torn about what I would stitch if I were to win some plum floss.......
I love stitchery and have a beautiful book of Redwork patterns.
One in particular is Ruby's Notions Keeper. It's a needlebook that would look just as lovely in plum as it would in red.
The other design I'd like to try your plums on is a monochrome sampler by Blackbird Designs and yes
of course I would share a pic of anything I stitch using your floss.

  16. Hi Nancy!

I love Plum flosses, I think the colours are great, don't understand why they are selling slower than the other.

I'm actually to finish Big Round Zipper by Bent Creek and I have everything ready to start stiching May Wigham Sampler. I think it would be great stitching it with your Plum flosses and as I post once a week (minimum) my stitching progress I think people would see the great colours and how my piece looks with them, not to mention I will say in all posts the flosses I'm using are yours.

You are very welcome to my blog so you can see what I'm talking about: http://wagapapacreations.blogspot.com/

    Have a good day! xoxo

  18. I have a pattern called anime girl blowing flowers that I think would suit plums. Its originally to be done in pinks but I actually don't like pinks. I do love purples and plums. :)

  19. Hi Nancy, I love your plum colors. Guess that is because I am a purple girl. I was wondering if you sell just the charts from some of your kits. I was looking at your patterns and I am thinking that I would love to try your any of your dark plum colors to do one of your Halloween charts. I just think it would be so cool and yet different from the black. I know as a kid, walking home from somewhere in the dark, was not only black but dark blues and purples also. Your plums would also be great for your Christmas ornament collection and also even though I have not really been a primitive stitching girl, I really took a liking to Harmony. So, if I am a winner of your beautiful plum colored threads, I know I will be ordering one of those 3 or even more to use them with. Thank you so much for all of your giveaways. You are so generous and giving.

  20. These shades are gorgeous! I much prefer these colours to the reds so I'm quite surprised they don't sell as quickly....ah well, each to their own!I've never stitched with hand dyed threads so this would be a real treat for me, and I have the most perfect sampler in mind. Keeping my fingers crossed that I might be the lucky winner!!!

  21. Hello!

These colors are so rich and regal...I'm sure that they would be a lovely addition to any project. Perhaps people don't choose them because they haven't worked with colors such as these before...and so many times we tend to be creatures of habit!

You asked what I would use them for...well, lately I've been working on some pillowcase dresses for the "a dress for each girl around the world" charity. I collect vintage linens...and recently found a whole collection of vintage stencils in a thrift shop. What I would do with this color is to embroider some of the designs (flowers, butterflies, ivy, swirls) on the bottom of some of the pillowcase dresses that I make. I would love to share pictures when I am finished...and share about this amazing ministry.

Thank you so much for hosting this give-away!

    Sweet blessings,
    Laura

  22. Oh, you're a couple days too late for me! I was just looking for a shade that wasn't too red or too pink for a small Valentine piece, and one of those plums would have been perfect! But don't count me out - I'm sure I can find another project to use those gorgeous shades, and I would definitely share the finish with you!

  23. I like the 5th one down from the top, I'm starting a country style BOM which this would be great for the stitchery, I like plums, browns, golds, not so keen on bright reds anymore :)

  24. I L*O*V*E* plums. I recently made a sampler with your Eggplant floss. It turned out great, but not many people appreciate the color.
If I would win some of these lovely threads, I would make another sampler ;))))

Thanks for the opportunity to win some of your beautiful threads.

  32. Hello, your floss looks rich and fancy and anybody would be lucky to try this beautiful floss. I have a pattern that I have been wanting to do but it calls for the blended floss that has several different colors in it. This would be great to use these flosses on. I am grateful you are even offering a chance to win these rich flosses. If I win any it would motivate me to stitch more just so I could show you the finished project lol. Ty for your generosity.

  35. I love plum colours! I think that upper one would be that I would definetely use for one colour projects, they would be perfect for biscornu patterns that I have designed, but with more reddish colours I should think more :)

And to your question, why do they sell less, could that be so easy that there isn't so many patterns you use plum/lilac colours? I easily use what ever overdyed for flowers, stems and so on...Plum is wonderful colour, but it "demands" so much for other colours, otherwise stitched piece will be unbalanced...

    ReplyDelete
  36. Gorgeous rich colours...love them! Great for samplers to add richness and vibrancy.

  37. Would you believe I have never used a hand-dyed floss before? All of those colors are gorgeous. And I am usually a pink girl. I could see them in some of my Valentine smalls or even thinking ahead to an Easter pattern I have in mind. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh Nancy, they're such gorgeous, rich colours! I don't know why anyone wouldn't want to stitch with them. Perhaps there aren't that many designs requiring this palette? In any case, I'm sure I could find a use for them. The second palette would work well on some Valentine stitches or perhaps in a small finish for spring.
Thanks for offering yet again a wonderful giveaway!

  40. Hi Nancy! Your plums are the shades of royalty, so deep and rich. I can see the darker palette on Moulin Rouge or perhaps a beautiful quaker piece, with mossy greens and burnished gold accents and a vintage linen. Can you see it too? They're lovely - thanks for sharing them!

  41. I love your hand-dyed plum floss. I can picture it on a Quaker sampler, such as an Ackworth sampler, which conveniently I already have a chart ready to stitch!

  42. My 2 cents. I think it doesn't sell as fast because people tend to use colours that they wear themselves and not many people wear plum. Some people do really love the colour though. Both my son and my daughter-in-law love purple and yes, they do wear it in it's many hues. My friend Ann loves it too and wears it a lot. I am a blue person but I try not to use that much in my quilting. It would get boring if I did. I would love to win some of your plum floss and use it in a sampler - especially if the cloth were a soft shade of gray. Now, that would be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I think it might be because the kind of samplers we usually stitch we tend to put on tea/coffee colour fabric. Plum is so popular here in the UK and Ireland but of course will not go with the more autumnal colours of traditional samplers. Saying that, I would love a challenge and could very easily see these going with many christmas projects with a bit of artistic tweeking. Hope this helps.

  44. I think PLUM is a lovely color. I do happen to have a project that needs a nice color. I started stitching Of Femal Arts by The Primitive Needle in an eggshell color but it just does not look right. I think PLUM would make it a lovely piece to add to my wall :)And also I have never used your floss before but have heard rave reviews so far from those that have.
    Thanks

  47. I have to confess, I LOVE purple - in all it's glorious shades. I am working on a block that is predominantly purples. I often wear shades of purple and it figures heavily in my quilts. So I guess I'm the wrong to ask. I'd buy those shades in a minute.

  48. I have yet to try your floss, as I was waiting until the tax return came, but I'd love to have the opportunity. I really like the top set of colors as the color seems a bit "richer" to me. If I were to win those, I'd do an alphabet sampler for my 2 year old grand-daughter's bedroom. My daughter & son in law just painted her room a very pale green with light pink trim and she just got her first big girl bed. They are using the Disney fairies (Tinkerbell) for her bed set and I think these colors would compliment the colors in her room beautifully.

  49. I can't imagine why plum sades aren't more popular! I love the plums-to-pinks spectrum, and find plums shades to be beautiful in almost anything, especially Christmas ornaments! I also have several Glendon Place designs in my stash that would be exquisite stitched in your plums. ~ Lorraine

    ReplyDelete
  50. I love these rich bright colors hun. There are many things I'd use them for; I have been wanting to stitch something from my BBD collection and I would use your lighter plum for the alphabet and use the darker one for the "S" in the alphabet because it's my initial and I always stitch it different than the other letters. :)

    PICK ME, PICK ME!!! (LOL)

  51. I actually have a project these colors would be pretty good with I believe. I attempt at doing abstract designs with swirls, I traditionally work with alot of browns and golds and yellows, with a single strand of red. However, I have been meaning to branch into other colors and rich blues don't attract me, rich greens are too foresty and squirrely. A friend suggested an aubergine-esque color scheme and I really want to go with that. Problem: Where I live, the only color they have is an awful lilac sort of color, and I am that rich-royal sort of color loving gal. I really need deep, saturated, thick colors in my pieces. So project it is!

Check my blog out to see the type of style I mean:)

    Thanks for the opportunity <3

  57. Such pretty colors. I like using plums and for houses and/or hearts on a sampler. The plum shades are more elegant and antique-looking than the cutesy pinks. I also like using plums with pinks and mauves in quaker patterns.

  58. Plums are like the quiet un noticeable person in the corner. You don't really take much notice of them until they are missing and then you realise just how important they are. They blend with reds and pinks wonderfully and can give samplers that antique look, in short they are plumtastic.

Personally I would use either set to stitch this wonderful sampler that I've my eye on http://www.123stitch.com/cgi-perl/itemdetail.pl?item=LD48 I think using just these plums in this monochrome sampler would show them off at their very very best.

  59. I love the purples. They are really pretty, but i can see where some other colors might be more popular. The redish plum in the bottom bunch looks like a pretty hair color. Also berries, grapes or flowers might be purple. I am always making my friends gifts, so these would go in my christmas present supply closet, where i keep all my goodies for making friends christmas presents. I tend to make ornaments and these are perfect.

  60. To be honest, I've always used traditional colors at Christmas and lean towards bright ornaments. Since I've started visiting these blogs, I'm inspired to stitch folksy ornaments this year. I think the first set of colors would be beautiful for this purpose.

I, personally, find the plums (Majestic Plum was my name for them in the contest) a fabulous choice for a Quaker Sampler or Victorian themed Christmas or Easter piece. I'm not asking to be chosen because I would be embarrassed by the length of time I would need to share a finished piece!!!!!
I am looking forward to see with the chosen stitchers create.

  72. Queen Victoria was the first person to wear the colour "Mauve", as the azo dye mauvein was developed during her reign, so purple shades were very fashionable and popular with the Victorians. I would have thought they were a perfect match for your samplers.

  73. I think the plum colors are beautiful but when I first thought of the colors before I saw a picture of them, I wondered how well they went with other colors. Maybe you should show a picture with them with some other colors to show how nicely they went with them, blues, greens etc.

  74. Hello! I just made my way over here from a link on Stray Stitches blog--I'm enjoying browsing your blog! I'm a cross stitcher from way back--then quilting came along and took over my stitching interest a bit, but I'm trying to get back to it and finished two nice projects last year. I'm a PURPLE lover for sure!! My bedroom is purple, bathroom wallpaper covered with purple hydrangeas (beautiful!), and I always opt for purple colors. But I guess it's true that purples aren't used a lot in cross-stitching. I could use the flosses on the bottom picture more than the top I think as they seem to blend more ..but I've never used hand-dyed before! My next project is for the birds...actually it's beautiful birds sitting on limbs and flying around a birdhouse...quite nice. The scripture with it says something about "brethren dwelling together in unity." The purple flosses just might blend in some of the bird's feathers. :)

  80. I would love to have some of these plum shades. My favourite colours are the mauves and lavenders and some of these shades have a mauve look to them. Like a lot of people at the moment I am on a very tight budget and am only buying supplies if I really need them. If I was lucky enough to be the winner I would gladly use the floss to stitch your Quaker Harmony Sampler, which you kindly sent to me, but I have unfortunately misplaced, so would buy a new copy.

Again Nancy thank you for a wonderful giveaway.

  81. I think some people are afraid of the plums, wines, purples...deep shades. I think they believe that red always looks better or that it is a safe choice. Not many designers use these colors a lot like they do the reds and many people don't feel comfortable changing out a color.
I, on the other hand, not only love these shades/hues, but not afraid to swap out colors from a chart or even do it completely differnt..using different floss and fabric colors.
I think these would look lovely on a quaker design, on a small ornie or fob or pincushion that you could either do totally monochromatic or just to add bits of color.
I would love to try some of your lovely looking floss, I love overdyes and really enjoy trying new things, floss..silk, overdyes, etc, fabrics..colors and different sizes and weights, small and large projects.
Thank you for an opportunity to try your lovely flosses.

  82. I'm not sure why plums wouldn't be as popular as other colors. I personally like the richness of the plum range. I'd love to be able have a palette of colors and pick whichever one tickles my fancy. Some of my stitching goals this year include vintage Victorian themed pieces to coordinate with our 1800's era Victorian estate. The plums will coordinate so well in many of the pieces I will be working on. Many of your motto designs will be specifically chosen also.

Thanks for an opportunity to stitch with your beautiful, richly dyed floss.

I would use the colors to make a monochromatic scissor fob or pin keep for my fellow stitching addicts in my monthly stitch group. Wouldn't then feel like royalty! Thanks you for the opportunity.

  84. These colors are to die for and i would love to use them in any of my projects even my own personal designs. I have been changing colors in a lot of my charts that call for DMC to silks and have enjoyed every minute of it.

If I'm not lucky enough t win, please tell me where I may purchase them.
