I love Christmas.....in December, in July....I love to give presents all year long. It's always fun to do the Christmas in July give-aways....so lets give away a necessaire to one lucky winner. If we have over 200 entries I will give away a second one.

Happy 4th!!!!

Wishing all of you here in the states a very Happy 4th of July! A wonderful day to celebrate in this country.

Woodland Floss Collection, wild berries, nuts and vines

I was dyeing some of the small lots of floss this week and decided to do a woodland theme....some wild berries, nuts and vines. I took some variegated floss and over dyed it with a completely different color...I think you will love the variegation in these as it looks like the variegation in berries and vines. I hope to be able to take some photos this afternoon after the dark clouds move out as it rained a while ago.

I always do a little research on wildflowers or anything like that for my collections. After all.....wild and crazy names aren't for my floss. If you have noticed I try to describe what the color is. Not just an exotic made up name. Lets have the name fit the color!

I dyed some wild raspberries, blueberries, grapes and grape vines, chestnuts, acorns, etc. I think you will like this collection. Primitive if you use them for primitive stitching or just use them for other berry and vine motifs.

Of course I will give a set away....don't I love to share with all of you? So stay tuned. I will gather the floss and hopefully be able to take a few pictures this afternoon. You don't want to miss out on this lovely collection. Limited edition as usual.

Keeping very busy with floss

I am always busy....always. Too busy. But it seems like there is always another frame to carve for a customer or another floss color I want to dye. I was going through the boxes (mountain) of floss cones that I have yesterday. My goodness. I think it will take me a year to dye all of this floss. No kidding. I have so many limited edition boxed sets that I want to do this summer alone. I keep getting ideas for new sets and then hit the dye pot. I will start showing some of those colors in a week or so. I am currently swamped with motto kit and frame orders this week. I keep saying I am going to quit carving frames but I have so many regular customers that have bought from me over the past 11 years and I just can't say no! I did quit stitching mottoes by request as these arthritic hands said no more. I stitched over 500 mottoes in 11 years!

I need to add about 4 hours onto each day and then maybe...just maybe...I could get everything done on my daily list. Trims....necessaires.....floss and linen to dye....so stay tuned.

I would love your opinion on floss!!!!

So here I go......I always wonder if this will bite me on the butt......

Do you all know why I sell my floss for $2 for 20 yards? Or my new line with the price increase for $2.45 for 20 yards? Simply to save stitchers money. Money I could be putting in my pocket if I sold 5 yards for $2.75 like the other shops do. But I won't.

I started selling floss to offer a quality product at an affordable price. I get criticized from shop owners who have asked to carry my floss....if I will quit selling wholesale to the public. And right now my pricing is below wholesale.

Am I mad? Yes. A shop owner told me that I will never get anywhere selling direct to all of you and not sell in shops.
And that I will be known for cheap floss with my cheap prices.
WRONG. I offer a quality product and I am just not greedy. Plain and simple. Could I open a small factory and employ people to do a larger floss business? Yes. I have a retail building sitting empty after we decided to close a pet shop. Do I want a larger floss business? No.
I love the stitchers I have met all along this journey and I have made many new friends. All over the world. I love to share my designs, my floss, and most of all, my time with the friends I have made. I like to call it quality of life. I know they appreciate the great prices I give them and we always have fun with all of my give-aways.

So I want you to know I will continue to sell wholesale to all of you. Simply to save you money. To give you quality floss at an affordable price.

So now that my rant is over....I will get back to floss! New colors....coming soon....new gift boxes, new floss sets and new give-aways!

It's back to work today.....after I pack orders from the weekend I will start listing the new floss colors in my ebay store. Happy Mother's Day!

I wanted to take a minute to wish everyone a very Happy Mother's Day. A day that is special to me in many ways. My Mother is 93 and still takes care of my sister who is 53 with special needs. My Mother raised 9 children and helped raise several of the grandchildren. I also had that privilege; after raising my children I have had my two grandsons with me for 14 wonderful years. The time quickly went by as I saw them grow into fine young men and I cherish all the memories we made along the way. Wonderful years!

I am sure we could all share stories of the joys of being a Mother.

So I salute all of our Mother's. Some we have lost but still cherish.......To The Best of Mothers.

The new, Ultimate Floss Collection

Over the next few days I will be listing the first 65 colors in my new Ultimate Floss Collection. It has been a challenge to work on this collection and keep up with orders over the past few months. Overwhelming is more like it....but I will start listing the new colors. I am very pleased with them and my friends gave me rave reviews when they were here. The shading is nice and not too drastic. A classic look. I am not into wild and crazy colors. I also have the first 12 colors for one of my new Kansas Wildflowers Collection. I will be listing that soon as a boxed set but they will also be available as singles.

The new colors are $2.45 each. As I previously explained, I have had more than 5 increases in the wholesale price of the floss over they years and this is my first price increase.

Here are a couple group photos of the new colors. For these colors I have listed a DMC Conversion on each label. This will be the closest color/colors I can match it to. In some cases there were two colors and I listed both. You could use it for either one but it will have a lighter or darker color in it.

When I have all 130 singles listed I will then divide the collection into 4 groups and list those groups as bagged sets. That way someone could purchase each group until they have the whole collection if they didn't want to buy singles. I will also list the entire 130 skein collection in a listing. I just figured it would be easier on the wallet to buy in 4ths.

Dyeing those colors was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. I tried very hard to have more variations within each skein than a lot of my previous colors. A few are tone on tone but not many. I think those of you who have been waiting for new colors will not be disappointed.

My Kansas friends helped me with a few of the names....especially the wildflowers we were researching for Kansas. Yellow Stargrass, Prairie Clover, Blue Sage, Meadow Flax, Western Wallflower, etc. The only problem that I ran into was too many wildflowers for one set. I will divide them and do two boxed sets. And speaking of boxed sets....I have a huge project this summer. I want to take all the half cones I have and make 20 different boxed sets of Limited Editions. You know me....love those limited editions. I will start dyeing the floss after all these colors are listed on ebay. I should be done dyeing all the floss by the end of June and then can start listing new boxed sets. I already have some cute names picked out for the boxes.

So back to work. I am still moving slow and have a thumb that will not work very well. Try carding floss, carving or sewing without one thumb and you will see why I have been so slow. And I feel sorry for anyone with arthritis because it sure makes work difficult.
So be patient with me with all these new colors.

It has been raining and cloudy for days and too dark to take photographs of the new floss. I will start listing it in my ebay store as soon as I can take the pictures. For now I need to whittle away at a mountain of orders that came in while I was taking a break last week with my friends from Kansas who came to visit. We had a wonderful time! We worked on several projects. A mini motto, a sewing necessaire and a cute little wooden box that we decorated. I wanted to make one similar to a little antique sewing box that I have and I think we did a great job. I will show pictures of that later this week.

Floss winner today! And another give-away so enter now!

I have been extremely busy with many things in the first quarter of 2016. Busier than I have ever been with dyeing new floss colors, stitching mottoes for customers (one more to go and I am caught up!) and hand carving more frames in the past 4 months than I did all of last year. I have the sore hands to prove it! I love being busy but this has been insane. Or maybe I am going insane...not sure which. But I have found time for a give-away and we have a winner for some of the new floss line colors. She has won 10 skeins and our lucky winner today is Ann K. Congratulations! I will start listing all the new floss colors in the ebay store at the end of the month and also show them here at that time. I have company coming to visit and I will actually close the ebay store for 5 days on the 26th-30th....the first time I am taking a break in 11 years since I opened the store......and believe me....I need a break more than I can describe. I'm not sure I remember how to sit and relax but I am going to give it a try.

Spring has been beautiful with all the lilacs, woodland phlox and spring flowers blooming. I was walking around the yard just smelling the flowers...heavenly perfume to soothe a weary soul.

Happy Easter

                  I just wanted to take a minute to wish all of you a very Happy Easter. I am taking a much needed day off to celebrate the holiday with my family. Those are truly the best days and time well spent.

New Line of floss give-away, enter now!!!

Yes I am still stitching away....two more mottoes to stitch for customers and two frames to carve. My goodness....this has been the busiest 3 months of stitching mottoes and the most frames we have done in one stretch. Believe me....my hands are numb.

With all the other work on mottoes I am still working on the new floss line. The guys are almost done with the new base for the stackable units that hold each color. The whole wall should be done in a few days and I can put the floss in each bin. I won't be selling the new floss until the beginning of next month as I have other things going on....but I thought I would give a surprise floss gift from the new line to one lucky winner. How about 10 of my 20 yard skeins! Brand new colors! These will retail for $2.45 each. As I previously stated.....I did not have a price increase for 7 years but with the last wholesale price increase I finally found it necessary to raise my prices. The old stock is still the same price and today it is on sale for 10% off. On ebay or direct from me.

Drawing to be April 15th. That is still one of my favorite days....I had a Belgian mare that gave birth on that day to the sweetest little (well.....200 pounds of sweetness!) filly you ever saw. I miss those days of raising the draft horses, but getting older...and sicker has put limitations on me. Maybe I should change that.....maybe after I move I will do everything that I want to once again. Just maybe.

Forget Me Not pattern

I took a little time each evening after work....that's 9 at night when I collapse in a chair, LOL, to work on a pattern for me. Something to hang on my wall. Not a custom pattern for a customer or anything like that. Something fun to do in the midst of this very busy time with my business. You have to take a little time to do something fun. I found that out many years ago. I work 7 days a week......I always have. But I take a little time here and there to create something unique.

I had a picture of an antique chromolithograph of a floral banner but decided I didn't like the flowers in it. I had a 4x4" drawing in black and white of a banner with a few flowers. That would work. So I drew it on the paper and then started adding flowers and stems. Good enough. I got some floss and went to work. Just having fun, adding a little each night. I didn't need everything drawn on the perforated paper as it is easy to add flowers and leaves as you go.
I added two little hummingbirds. Looked good to me. So I then added the words Forget Me Not on the ribbon banner. Just like a painting (I used to paint....I miss that and may get back to it when I retire some day), adding things as I stood back and could see a bare spot.....where it needed a little something. A flower. A leaf. And the painting with floss on my paper canvas grew all week and I think...think it may be finished. But you never know...I may look at it for a couple days and decide to add a flower or two. I have been known to grab my paints and go back to a painting just to add a tree branch. Or a few spots on a cow....I love painting cows. OK, back to floss.

I won't do this motto as a kit because this is a pattern for me....to hang in my guest room as the colors are perfect for that room....and I thought I would show it to you.

Looking at my monitor I think the colors are much softer than this....even with this new camera I am a little disappointed with the way it shows the colors. Oh well. I just wanted you to see what I did this week in my late evenings. And I really shouldn't have done so much stitching as I am swamped with hand carved frames again this week. I stitched a motto on the dark brown paper....again.....somebody please kick me in the hind end.....and I also took orders for two more on brown paper. I think I need my head examined. It just goes to show you....never say never.

I hope to put some floss together this week for a new give-away.....as it dawned on me that we don't have one going right now! How did I let that happen?? Oh yes...I was busy stitching!!
